Elijah wants a trampoline for his birthday because it's fun. YB does not want a trampoline because it's dangerous, unsightly and most of all he has to drive to Kona to pick up the used one he found (a job undertaken last by four Samoan men.)He thinks Elijah won't jump on it after three days anyway. Consequently, they have entered into a contractual agreement: "I, Elijah Ko, promise to play on my trampoline by jumping up and down at least ten minutes a day for six months excepting illness injury, prohibitive weather or a pre-approved exception by all mighty Dad. Failing to fulfill the above said agreement Elijah Ko will perform all dinner dish duties for one year commencing on the date of default."
